Burnetts supports Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Day…

On Friday 21st May at Burnetts Solicitors we will be marking Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Day (SCIAD) by reflecting on the past year and how that has affected our many clients with spinal cord injuries.

Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Day is an annual event when the leading UK Spinal Cord Injury Charities Spinal Injuries Association, Aspire, Back Up and Spinal Research come together to raise awareness of spinal cord injury and highlight the challenges that people with a spinal cord injury face on a daily basis.

We know that spinal cord injury is devastating for every person that it effects and in a split second, that person can lose their independence and their freedom. This can affect not only the individual but their families also. The effects can often not only be physical but also psychological as the person tries to come to terms with the consequences of the spinal injuries sustained.

With the mental health challenges affecting the whole of society following the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s important to reflect on how spinal cord injured people and their families have dealt with the past year many of which have had to face enforced isolation for long periods.

Unfortunately, life doesn’t suddenly go back to normal for spinal cord injured people. They will often face barriers with accessibility, lack of access to care and general stigma about their acquired disability. It can take many years of support and rehabilitation to try and improve outcomes and quality of life for people with spinal cord injury.

You can join the conversation by posting and sharing on social media throughout the day on Friday 21st May, with quotes, graphics and statistics, all using the hashtag #SCIAD21.

At Burnetts solicitors we are committed to providing quality, accessible legal advice at a quick pace, whilst always ensuring client’s expectations and aims are met with a grounded, accessible, professional service.
