Rheumatology
Rheumatology is the branch of medicine focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of problems with joints, ligaments, bones and muscles. Rheumatic diseases include:
Osteoarthritis – caused by the continual damage to the cartilage which cushions the ends of bones and which can affect any joint.
Rheumatoid Arthritis – an autoimmune disorder where the immune system attacks the synovium (the soft tissue which lines the inner surface of synovial joints) and causes inflammation and joint pain.
Fibromyalgia – a long term condition which causes pain throughout the body.
We recognise the consequences of delayed diagnosis of rheumatoid diseases can cause a significant reduction in the mobility and use of affected joints and/or long term pain.
